The South Australian Computational and Linguistics Olympiad (SACLO) was hosted by PAC on Friday 27 October 2023. Twenty-three teams from a range of SA schools competed to crack the codes of previously unseen language challenges.
The teams were tasked with understanding and translating a range of languages including Hindi, Russian, Filipino, and Kabyle which is spoken in Algeria. They also had to read and decipher the Ditema tsa Dinoko writing system used to transcribe several Bantu languages in southern Africa.
Thank you to our Year 11 boys Maulik, Johnny, Alex and Sid who made up the senior team ‘Languagistians’ for their participation. A special mention goes to Maulik who was in the winning team in the first round of puzzles.
The national competition, OZCLO takes place in March 2024. Anyone in Years 7 to 12 who enjoys problem solving and coding is invited to join the SACLO Club by emailing Maulik Singhal.
