We often see auctioneers in the media frequently, performing for the crowd, engaging with diverse audiences, displaying great confidence, flexibility and articulating themselves through strong communication skills.

With this in mind, it was incredibly pleasing to see a number of our students take on the challenge of entering the 2019 Schools Auction Championship under the expert guidance of Matt Smith from Klemich Real Estate. Matt worked tirelessly in mentoring and preparing our four participants, Charles Quigley-Smith (Year 10), Blake Lawrenson (Year 12), George Karassoulos (Year 12) and Anuk Kariyawasam (Year 12), as they embarked on a mock selling campaign to auction their family home to an audience of some of South Australia’s top real estate professionals. Each of our boys displayed great character, outstanding presentation and their own individual flair in the sale of their home at the state heats, held at Cornerstone College. At the conclusion of the heats, Anuk Kariyawasam (Year 12) was selected as one of seven South Australian grand finalists, where he was given only seven days to prepare his pitch in selling an iconic country property in the Riverland region of the state.

Anuk prepared methodically and delivered a smooth and comprehensive auction at the grand final. We are proud to announce that Anuk placed second, representing our School in an outstanding manner. Quite possibly, we may see any one of these boys in the field in years to come, demonstrating the skills and knowledge that they have developed as a result of this great state competition.
