Congratulations to Andrew Maenda who has gained selection in the Athletics Australia Team for the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games to be held in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago from 4-11 August.

As a 100m sprinter, Andrew firstly had to meet the Athletics Australia qualifying standard of 10.69sec. He did this on 3 occasions, twice in Adelaide and once in Brisbane whilst competing at the National Championships. His Personal Best presently stands at 10.57sec.

Andrew joins 19 other athletes from across Australia, 2 others from South Australia.

We will follow his schedule, that includes the 100m and potentially the mixed 4x100m relay, with great interest.

What makes Andrew’s selection all the more impressive is he is only 16 years old and will be competing in the Under 18 age category.

All the best in the lead up to and in competition Andrew.
