On Friday 28 March 28, two groups of Technology students from SPSC took part in the Lockheed Martin Cyber Quest Competition, featuring two teams, Byte Me & Phish & Chips; one a Year 12 Digital Technology students and the other Year 11 Cyber Studies students. This annual high school event aims to inspire students to explore careers in cybersecurity by engaging them in exciting challenges that reflect real-world scenarios in the field.

During the three-hour competition, the teams worked together to solve various cybersecurity problems, testing their skills in different types of attacks, from basic information gathering (OSINT) to more complex website hacks. I particularly enjoyed finding the website vulnerabilities and exploiting them for access into the website backend. Each solve of a problem came with a very satisfying flag submission and leaderboard placing.

Both teams put forward their best efforts, with the Year 12 group performing particularly well. Although neither team placed in the competition, the experience was enjoyable and provided a valuable opportunity to learn more about cybersecurity and the dynamics of the Capture the Flag format.
