On the 12th, 13th & 14th September, current Year 7 Art students met with local Aboriginal Artist Trent Hill for a tour of the Botanic Gardens. Trent shared his knowledge of different native plants and their uses as food, medicine, tools and shelter. He engaged the students through demonstrations and encouraged them to take photographs which they will begin to use in the Art room next week, ultimately producing a botanical painting based upon one of the plants they saw on the tour.

The students were particularly fascinated by Trent’s demonstration of how to create a fire using two stems from grass tree blooms, and how the resin from this plant can be collected after a fire to create tools such as knives and axes.

We look forward to sharing the artworks the students produce as a result of this wonderful experience.
