As Head of Soccer, I am delighted to announce a remarkable and unprecedented level of individual achievement in our sport. Last week, Bailey O’Neil was selected for Adelaide United Men’s (A-League) squad in the Australia cup. This selection came a few days after Bailey became the first ever SPSC student to be awarded a professional soccer contract whilst at school. His scholarship contract commits Bailey to Adelaide United for the next two years and may lead to a full time soccer career in future. Of course, you may recall that earlier this year, Bailey also represented Australia at U17 level for the Joeys, in an International tournament.

Bailey is to be congratulated for continuing to maintain a full and enthusiastic commitment to school soccer alongside the demands of his Adelaide United involvement. Much like Billy Dowling (DAC 2022) last year, Bailey, is a role model and example to all other elite level performers at St Peter’s College, in the way that, despite his unique level of achievement, Bailey remains a very humble and modest individual who shuns the spotlight and continues to give service to the school soccer program in every way, by volunteering to coach and referee junior games, and by competing for both his House and School, whenever possible.
