Our students recently had the opportunity to attend two inspiring excursions as part of the Adelaide Writers Week Festival.
Year 12 Literature Studies Excursion – Friday 28 March
On Friday 28 March, a selection of our Year 12 Literature Studies students visited the Women’s Pioneer Gardens. They attended two captivating presentations: “Writing Fantasy” with Amie Kaufman and Lili Wilkinson, and “What’s All This About AI?” with Dr Matt Agnew. Amie and Lili shared their expertise on creating magic systems and fantasy worlds, offering insights into their books, The Isles of Gods and Unhallowed Halls. The students were thoroughly engaged and many expressed excitement about reading these books. Dr Matt Agnew highlighted bias within AI systems and provided much food for thought around AI and the new challenges we face as a society.
Year 11 English Excursion – Monday 3 March
On Monday 3 March, our Year 11 English students visited the Adelaide Town Hall to hear Markus Zusak discuss his renowned novel, The Book Thief, in celebration of its 20th anniversary. Markus provided valuable insights into the creation of the story and his perseverance in writing ‘Death’ as the narrator. He also shared childhood memories from his German and Austrian parents that influenced the book. Both excursions were enriching experiences, sparking enthusiasm and a deeper appreciation for literature among our students.
