On Thursday 13 August various boys from Years 7 to 10 attended the annual Anglican Schools Workshop event. This event saw these boys travel to Woodcroft College, near Morphett Vale, to connect with peers from the other 11 Anglican schools in South Australia.
Over the workshop, the key idea was ‘Leading like a family’, with our boys participating in various brainstorming activities around this overarching idea.
Firstly, we had an insightful experience with Maisie and Sam from the Australian Girls Choir (AGC). They covered how leadership is present in the choir through various aspects like when one girl comforts a girl that is nervous or upset. Additionally, throughout the presentation they emphasised how true leadership comes from within.
During this excursion, one of the workshops available was gardening. The goal was to re-pot a native melaleuca/tea tree sapling and successfully grow the sapling in a place where younger students can see it. The purpose of this action was to emphasise connection through older students being role models for younger students, showing growth and teamwork.
To conclude the day, mixed with four other table groups, we made our way over to the tennis courts to play some outdoor games. There, we learned how to play a variety of simple, but fun games. These games revolved around the concept that there are many ways to enjoy our time and be a role model to younger boys. During lunch time, we were sent to our assigned tables to talk with and get to know people from the other 11 Anglican schools.
Overall, this event was a great experience to meet new people, practice networking skills, and discover new ideas and discuss what it means to be a leader, work as a team, and strengthen our relationships with other students.
