This term we have been privileged to welcome our 2026 Artist in Residence, South Australian Glass Artist Jess Loughlin.
Jess Loughlin is a highly regarded artist throughout Australia and internationally and has exhibited her work all over the world with her work on permanent view in America, Italy, the UK, Switzerland, the Art gallery of South Australia, and the National Gallery in Canberra.
Jess specialises in kiln formed glass and is a passionate artist who willingly shared her knowledge, skills and techniques with us.
The boys in Years 3 and 4, enjoyed watching her cut glass and break it apart, and enjoyed listening to her talking about glass. She showed her kiln glowing as the glass was being fired, but most of all the boys loved learning that red glass was made from gold.
Boys experienced planning their design, handling and placing the glass, and were able to understand the process of creating a glass artwork. Using translucent and opaque glass, boys arranged their geometric compositions, which were then fused together in the kiln.
It gives me great pleasure in thanking Jess for creating an incredible and memorable experience for our students. In the coming weeks, we will be displaying all the boys glass art in the Junior School entrance foyer, and I look forward to everyone viewing our special display.
