During weeks 5 to 7 of this term, the Athletic Development department have worked with our HPE department to roll out monitoring assessments for all our boys from Year 7 to 10. This monitoring marks the first collection point of what will become a bi-annual assessment of our students. The goal of this monitoring is to provide feedback to the boys and their families on their athletic competency and to track their progress as they move through their schooling journey.

We measured 30m sprint time, countermovement jump height and will be calculating predicted age for peak height velocity (PHV), the fastest period of growth during adolescence.

These results will be collated and used to provide opportunities to help ‘close the gap’ on those boys who have not performed as strongly on the physical tests and to stretch those who have performed well. The school’s IT department are working on a new dashboard that will display these results for each individual boy and their families, through their own private and unique page. This will be shared with parents in Term 1 2025.

This project is being led by the Athletic Development department with the assistance of a newly appointed PhD student in conjunction with Flinders University. Liam Galanti joined the school at the beginning of term 4 and brings a strong skillset having completed a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science, a Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology and a Graduate Diploma in Psychological Science. In addition, he has good industry experience, having been with the Woodville West-Torrens Eagles football Club for the past 4 years as a strength and conditioning coach and working as an Exercise Physiologist in Health Care.
