Over the three-day State Championship competition, 22 St Peter’s College Track and Field athletes competed in a total of 51 events, joined by 92 Saints Club athletes competing in age groups from Under 14 to Open Age. Inclusive of Veteran and Para categories, more than 550 athletes representing 23 clubs affiliated with Athletics Australia competed over the weekend.
The weekend had it all. Present day students were treated with many amazing performances by fellow students and Old Scholars, some being present members of our coaching team. St Peter’s College students achieved 18 podium finishes, 4 Gold, 6 Silver and 8 Bronze medals along with numerous Athletics Australia National Entry Standards, Finals Qualifiers and Personal Bests. The weekend commenced with warm temperatures before closing late Sunday with thunder and lightning.
Taking this opportunity to thank all members of our coaching team for sharing their time and expertise with our athletes leading into this competition. It is appreciated that such a commitment requires a great deal of energy and time away from families.
Training sessions will continue through to the end of Term 1. We can look forward to preparing for the 2 remaining interclubs, SSSSA in the final week of this term as well as Nationals to be held in Brisbane during the school holiday break.
