Visiting authors and illustrators provide a unique and exciting perspective to the world of literature. At Saints we are extremely fortunate to be able to invite a range of literary professionals to engage with the boys. These visitors share their wide ranging expertise in the art of story telling with actions and music, the story writing process (from first ideas to research and to publication) and their unique illustrating styles.

Our Year 2 students began their Author in Residence journey this year with a live performance of The Wind in the Willows in Botanic Park. While the weather was rather warm, the boys were captivated by the way the story was told through the eyes of one character, Mr Badger. This experience allowed the boys to immerse themselves into a classic story that was first written in 1904. Their interest has been further stimulated by the display in the Junior School Library and discussions in library lesson with Ms Alison Winter about the characters and setting that are not normally seen in Australia.

Other visiting authors and illustrators this year include Sally Heinrich (One Step at a Time), Jacqueline Harvey (Kenzy and Max series), Phil Cummings (Boy, Feather, Anzac Biscuits), Indigenous performer Monty Pryor and the current Children’s Laureate, Morris Gleitzman (Boy Overboard, Once series)! The boys from ELC – Year 7 will take part in different parts of our Author in Residence program.
