On the last Wednesday of Term 2, all the boys studying French from Prep to Year 3 celebrated Bastille Day, St Peter’s College style.
We gathered in the Avenues under clear skies and prepared to march to Da Costa Dining Hall. We sang “Frère Jacques” all the way and arrived at the entrance to the Bastille (Da Costa) with much fanfare. The Headmaster, Mr Tim Browning, welcomed us and we filed into the Dining Hall. The French decorations matched the boys’ clothes, creating an incredible sea of blue, white and red.
The Year 3 Strings group played “Au Clair de la Lune” and “Alouette” to begin our festivities. The Year 3 French students then sang “Au Soleil”, a song about the weather, and the Prep to Year 2 students sang two different alphabet songs. These performances highlighted some of our learning. The Headmaster and Mrs Jasmine Taylor were on hand to congratulate the students who received Certificates of Merit celebrating their enthusiasm for French language and culture.
It was then time for our delicious morning tea of hot chocolate and fresh, warm croissants.
Thank you to Croissant d’Or Bakery, the Chartwells team and the staff and Prefects who helped make our 2026 Bastille Day celebrations such a success. Finally, thank you to all the students of French who demonstrate a love of the language and embrace all things Francophone.
