Battle of the Bands is a highlight of the House event calendar, and this year’s event was bigger and better than ever! With each House putting on a great performance on the day, it was a tough one for adjudicators to judge. Our expert panel of adjudicators – Adam Page, Marcus Barricelli and Max Grynchuk, selected MacDermott House as the winner for their rendition of Bruno Mars’ hit chart “Uptown Funk”.
MacDermott House put on a dazzling and skilful display, engaging the audience with their performances including extra members of the House partying in the Juliette balconies. Well done to MacDermott!
This year also included the addition of five Excellence Awards, awarded to outstanding performances from individuals. Well done to Lawson Jones (HWD) for nailing the high notes in Take On Me, Ben Allen (S&A) for his outstanding singing, Dominic Wong (S&A) for his exceptional drumming with S&A and the staff band, Kenny Wang (SHT) for his excellent groove on the drums, and Daniel Kwan (WDK) for his outstanding job as front man on guitar and vocals.
Adding to the excitement, the Teacher Band and Prefect Band went head-to-head in a crowd-pleasing showdown, with the Prefects taking the win. A special mention also goes to the Rock Band Red for their tight and energetic performance of Metallica’s Enter Sandman.
