The Blessing of the Wicket last Thursday marked an exciting milestone for cricket at St Peter’s College, as we celebrated the relaying of the Main Oval wicket, the first of five pitches to be upgraded as part of Project Pitch In. The energy on the oval was a testament to the strength of our cricketing community, as parents, old scholars, and friends of the School came together.
A highlight of the event was Headmaster Tim Browning bowling the first ball, a symbolic start to this new chapter for SPSC Cricket. We were also privileged to hear from Damian Hough, Head Curator of Adelaide Oval, who spoke about the renewal process and the importance of high-quality facilities in developing players.
Intercol concluded on Monday, and while the result didn’t go our way, the spirit of the contest was a reminder of why this rivalry remains the longest consecutive cricket fixture in the world. Jeremy Borgas, Head of Cricket, observed:
“The newly relaid Main Oval wicket played incredibly well for a new surface, exceeding expectations with consistent pace and bounce across all four days. It’s also remarkably level which is a testament to the quality of construction.”
But Project Pitch In is about more than just one wicket. This initiative will see four more ovals upgraded, ensuring every boy has access to world-class cricket facilities. Next, our focus turns to redeveloping the centre wicket on Caterer Oval.
Thank you to all who have supported this project so far, including the generous contribution from parents of the 2013 England Tour, which has played a key role in making this upgrade possible.
Thank you for your continued support of SPSC Cricket. Your commitment is what keeps our cricketers striving for excellence.
