This week, the Social Enterprise Group; Blue Threads, lead by students in Years 10 to 12 went live with their eBay clothing store. The mission of the group is to raise money to support SPSC Service Learning activities including our Respite ‘Buddy Up’ Program and SONY Camp. The group has taken advantage of the demand for pre-loved fashion by establishing a digital platform to sell designer brand second-hand items of clothing.

The Blue Threads online platform is now live with their first pieces of men’s clothing generously donated by the Senior School Houses as part of the Captain’s Challenge Cup. Bidding for these items is open until midday Monday 2nd of October. The House that raises the most money for their donated items will secure maximum points for the Captains Cup.

All proceeds from the sale of these items will support our Service Learning activities that in turn create meaningful volunteering opportunities for our students to better serve our greater community.

The boys have been fortunate enough to be mentored by a member of our own Parent Community – Mia Crescitelli, who is the founder of French Laundry – a sustainable second-hand fashion business aimed at making pre-loved shopping more desirable than purchasing new. Under Mia’s mentorship the boys were able to learn about how to source, photograph, price and sell online pre-loved clothing items, similar to what she does in her own sustainable clothing business. We are incredibly grateful for the time she has given the boys to come in during their regular Tuesday meetings and guide them in this service venture.

Mia has also kindly invited the Blue Threads students to learn more by attending her upcoming panel event Opshopulence x French Laundry as part of Adelaide Fashion Week, which will feature Mia and bestselling author of Opshopulence, Faye De Lanty, leading a captivating panel discussion on Faye’s sustainable fashion wisdom. For any pre-loved fashion fans within our SPSC community, we warmly invite you to book a ticket and attend what will be a great Adelaide Fashion Week event on Sunday October 22nd 2023, from 2-4pm. Tickets can be purchased here.
