Book Week in the Senior School was all about “Rock & Read”, celebrating the powerful connection between music and literature.
Few things are as integral to the human experience as reading. Pairing it with music, another universal language that speaks to our emotions and imagination, is a powerful way to showcase its enduring importance.
Throughout the week, students and staff shared their own curated mixtapes, showcasing their favourite books and songs. A popular mix-and-match display challenged participants to identify a song from a short soundbite, then match it with the song title, artist and book that inspired it.
On Tuesday, Prefects John and Hugo hosted a highly popular Musical Bingo session, drawing an enthusiastic crowd. Thursday saw the English and Library faculties go head-to-head in the staff dress-up competition, with the English team taking out first place with their take on the ‘Rock’ in ‘Rock & Read’, transforming themselves into a rock band for the day.
By Friday, the library was turning every stereotype of a quiet, shushing space on its head. Rock Bands Green and Red brought the shelves to life with energetic lunchtime performances. During afternoon mentor groups competed in a fast-paced password challenge. Teams raced to crack the clue and make it to the library first, with Ms Casamento’s mentor (Farr House), claiming victory and a sweet reward.
