During the last week we have been able to celebrate the academic success of students who participated in ICAS Competitions and the Australian Mathematics Competition in Term 3. ICAS competitions were held for Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Digital Technologies, Spelling Bee and Science. ICAS competitions give students in Years 2 to 6 the opportunity to challenge their higher order thinking and problem-solving skills. We had over 150 different Junior School students who participated this year. Over 400 individual tests were administered within our Junior School alone.

The Australian Mathematics Competition is a mathematical problem-solving competition. It consists of 30 unique problems designed each year by leading educators and academics to challenge and engage student’s mathematical problem-solving skills. This year our Year 5 and 6 Mathematics Enrichment students participated in this competition.

On Friday of Week 3 we celebrated our High Distinction winners and ICAS Medal Winners. A High Distinction in ICAS is awarded to students who are in the top 1% of participants in each subject. ICAS Medals are an exceptional achievement for students. These are awarded to students who achieved the best results in their year level for South Australia. We are extremely proud of our four Junior School students who earned this achievement, Oliver Dang (Y2 Spelling Bee), Kush Jasoria (Y3 Mathematics), Alexander Nguyen (Y4 Mathematics and Science) and Zhizhan Ye (Y6 Spelling Bee). For the Australian Mathematics Competition, a High Distinction is awarded to students in the top 3% of their year level and region. A special prize is awarded to students in the top 0.33% of their year and region. This significant AMC Prize was awarded to Lachlan Bell (Y6). Overall, our students achieved 21 individual High Distinction Awards between 18 students.

On Monday of Week 4 we celebrated our Distinction Award winners. A Distinction in ICAS is awarded to students who are in the top 10% of participants in each subject. For the Australian Mathematics Competition, a Distinction is awarded to students in the top 20% of their year level and region. Our students earned over 90 individual Distinction Awards between 49 different students.

In addition, to these achievements we had a significant number of students who achieved Credits, Merits or Participations. We appreciate the effort, rigour and time that students invested into this endeavour and are proud of their achievements.
