This year, the Dragon Boat Festival fell on 31 May. To commemorate Qu Yuan, the patriotic poet and minister who lived over 2200 years ago in China, people around the world have celebrated this significant festival for more than 2000 years through dragon boat racing and zongzi (sticky rice dumpling) eating.
Our Junior School Chinese language learners have embraced the spirit of this global celebration by participating in a variety of cultural activities throughout the week. Prep boys experimented with the traditional egg-standing challenge in class.
Years 1 and 2 boys used foam printing techniques to create their own zongzi and bamboo leaf artworks. Years 3 and 4 boys made colourful dragon boats out of pipe cleaners for good luck. All students from Years 1 to 6 had the opportunity to taste and share warm, fragrant, cooked zongzi during their Chinese lessons. We wish everyone a joyful and meaningful Dragon Boat Festival—may you be as strong, spirited, and united as a dragon boat!
