Talented musician and Year 8 student Charlie Wells recently performed with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in their sold out Master Series Concert – Freedom and Joy at the Adelaide Town Hall.
Performing the solo boy soprano of Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms alongside world-class musicians, Charlie sang beautifully. At just 13 years of age, it was an immense privilege for Charlie to work with the ASO’s Principal Conductor, Nicholas Carter. The performances received a glowing review in The Australian.
It was not the first time Charlie has performed with the ASO. In 2015, Charlie was invited to perform the boy soprano solo with the ASO in the Adelaide Festival of Arts Danny Elfman’s Music for the Films of Tim Burton, conducted by John Mauceri.
Charlie, who was appointed Head Chorister of St Peter’s Cathedral Choir in 2017, is deeply involved with the music program at Saints. As well as singing, Charlie is a talented pianist, pipe organist and trombonist. He sings in various choirs and ensembles at School and has performed solos including Pie Jesu in Faure’s Requiem and the role of Gavroche in Les Miserables.
In 2014, Charlie travelled to Europe with St Peter’s Cathedral Choir where he performed at York Minster, Lincoln Cathedral, Durham Cathedral and Westminster Abbey, as well as Notre Dame in Paris.
Charlie has a very exciting future ahead of him and we look forward to following his musical career over the coming years. Congratulations Charlie!
