On Wednesday 13 August, seven of our Year 5 students joined young leaders from across Adelaide at the Children’s Kindness Convention, hosted by St Peter’s Woodlands in Glenelg.
This one-day event encouraged students to explore how kindness can help address some of the world’s most pressing social and environmental challenges. Working in mixed-school teams, participants developed creative, compassionate solutions to issues such as ocean pollution, online behaviour and fast fashion.
Guided by the belief that kindness can inspire meaningful change, students combined empathy, collaboration, and problem-solving skills to present innovative proposals. We are especially proud of our own Marcus B, who was part of the winning team, Swimming in Plastics.
Their project addressed the growing problem of microplastics in the ocean by proposing the creation of “micro foods” – safe, biodegradable alternatives to replace harmful plastics in the environment. The day celebrated creativity while reinforcing the importance of empathy and global citizenship. Our students returned inspired, ready to apply the lessons of kindness in their classrooms, communities, and beyond. As Year 5 student Henry B reflected: “Kindness is key.”
