09 May 2025
Term 1, 2025 was not just a festive term with our grand celebration of the Chinese New Year — the Year of the Snake, the most significant Chinese festival of the year — but also a term filled with passion for language learning through various exciting challenges. To celebrate International Mother Language Day in March, our Annual Tongue Twister Competition brought all Chinese language learners together in a fierce but fun contest. Students competed with great effort for the limited spots on the podium. The 2025 winners from Year 1 to Year 6 in both categories are:
First Language Category
Year 1: Hubert Zou
Year 2: Issac Fa
Year 3: Gilbert Zeng
Year 4: Damon Yuan
Year 5: Jimmy Yang
Year 6: Oscar Ma
Second Language Category
Year 1: Max Nelson
Year 2: Hamilton Ooi
Year 3: Nyasha Mbizvo
Year 4: Kush Jasoria
Year 5: Santino Aquino
Year 6: Aaryan Pandey
The boys practiced their speaking and listening skills while also building resilience and perseverance, pushing their limits to improve every time. At the end of the term, Chinese learners from Year 1 to Year 6 took part in the Chinese Character Art Challenge to honour April 21st — International Chinese Language Day, established by the United Nations to commemorate Cang Jie, the legendary figure who is said to have created the first Chinese characters. As we all know, Chinese characters are picture-like, and each one carries a unique meaning. Twenty-five boys from different year levels used a range of artistic techniques to creatively represent individual characters. It was a fun and imaginative way to celebrate the beauty of Chinese characters and our learning of this ancient language. Term 1 has been a productive and busy term, and we look forward to even more fun and learning in Term 2.
