Celebrating Excellence: SPSC Hosts the 2024 South Australia Chinese Language Awards Ceremony

On Friday evening, August 23rd, at 6.00pm, the 2024 South Australia Chinese Language Awards Ceremony was successfully held at SPSC’s Memorial Hall. Mem Hall welcomed nearly 700 award-winning students, along with their teachers and parents, from 44 primary and secondary schools across South Australia. During the ceremony, close to 90 awards from the 2024 South Australia Chinese Language Awards and 148 awards from the 2024 South Australia Chinese Video Competition were presented. Deputy Headmaster/Head of Junior School Mrs Jasmine Taylor, gave a beautiful and genuine opening speech for the awards night. The Deputy Head of Junior School, Mr Storer, presented the awards alongside Mrs Taylor to the Junior School winners.

Three of our Year 6 boys were recognised for their outstanding efforts throughout their years of learning Chinese in Junior School. Poli Guo was nominated as the winner of the First Language Learners of Chinese in SPSC Junior School. Sebastian Van Niekerk was nominated as the winner of the Background Language Learners of Chinese in SPSC Junior School. Hughie Manifold was nominated as the winner of the Second Language Learners of Chinese in SPSC Junior School.

Additionally, six of our school’s videos placed in the Top 3 in various categories:
•  The video “我就是一只可爱的大熊猫” by Isaac Tiong, Reinhold Mayer, Ethan Fon, and Josiah Yu, and the video “勇气大爆发” by Johnson Cheung, Jeremy Huang, Issac Fa, Ethan Tian, and Boris Meng won 3rd place in the Reception to Year 2 Background Language Learners category.
•   The video “勇气大爆发” by Zakariya Abbas, Oliver Dang, Samuel Kozman, Aiden Maghsoudi, and Elliott Ng won 3rd place in the Reception to Year 2 Second Language Learners category.

•   The video “大熊猫馆” by Ethan Zhang and Alex Lin, and the video “Pandas of the World” by Jacob Zhong won 3rd place in the Years 3 to 6 First Language Learners category.

A highlight of the evening was when 14 Years 1 and 2 winners from our School performed the Chinese song “Courage Bursts Out” with 16 Year 3 students from Westminster School on the stage of Memorial Hall. Despite never having rehearsed together, they delivered an incredibly performance, celebrating their achievement.

Throughout the evening, Sean Zhang (Year 5) accompanied the awards presentation by playing the piano, adding a touch of elegance and ambiance to the entire event.

As the Chinese teacher at SPSC and the Vice President of CLTASA in 2024, I am incredibly proud and grateful that SPSC hosted this significant event within the South Australian Chinese learning community. It was truly meaningful for all Chinese language learners across various schools in South Australia to showcase their amazing achievements in Chinese learning at the awards ceremony. We are looking forward to seeing everyone in 2025.
