This term, Young House chose to run a service initiative in support of Backpacks 4 SA Kids. This organisation provides much-needed resources to contribute to the care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people during periods of dislocation from home and routine care.
Students and staff in Young House, had the privilege of hearing from Gloria Bond (Grandmother of Young House Captain, Ted Bond) who along with her husband, John, have been foster carers for the past 18 years. Gloria and John have experienced first-hand the impact that these care packages, provided by organisations such as Backpacks 4 SA Kids, can make when a young person comes into their care.
Over the past two weeks, Young House Mentor groups have worked together to purchase and pack at least one backpack each with a list of items required for children of a specific age. This afternoon, the backpacks are being delivered by students and Mentors of Young House to the Backpacks 4 SA Kids headquarters.
This is a wonderful experience for the students to see how this charity operates and hopefully make a difference in some young people’s lives. Thank you to Head of Young House Mr Michael Lucas for providing this opportunity to the students and to all the families of Young House for your generous contributions.
