In May, 37 students from Year 4, 5 and 6 participated in the Computational and Algorithmic Thinking (CAT) competition. This opportunity provides the occasion for students to develop their problem-solving skills through algorithmic thinking. The competition incorporates unique ‘three-stage tasks’ that encourage students to develop informal algorithms and apply them to test data of increasing size and complexity. These are skills developed throughout the Junior School within our Mathematics and Technologies curriculum and learning experiences.
13 Credit awards were given to the top 50% of their year level. 11 Distinction awards recognised our students within the top 15% of their year level. 3 students were awarded High Distinction certificates recognising that they were within the top 2% of their year level. A special mention to Terry Yao (Year 5) who was recognised with a Certificate of Excellence for achieving a perfect score in the competition. He also received a Best in School Award.
We celebrated these student’s achievements in a Junior School Assembly in Week 3 and within their classes.
