Earlier this week, I was privileged to hear Stephen Yarwood speak. Stephen is a renowned Futurist, highly respected Urbanist, former Lord Mayor of Adelaide and an award-winning member of the Planning Institute of Australia. Listening to him explore possible futures isn’t the first time I’ve been prompted to think about the impact technology is having on society or how AI is going to shape our lives and more specifically the children we work with. The velocity in which technology is evolving and developing itself is both fascinating and terrifying. To quote Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, ‘the pace of change has never been this fast, yet it will never be this slow again.’
With this in mind, I continue to reflect on what we need to prioritise for our students. In the context of our School, and a world in which robots already vacuum our houses and will foreseeably make our beds and clean our bathrooms, it is human connections that will define the quality of life we will lead in the future.
And hence, it is worth pointing out the opportunities students at St Peter’s College have to connect with others, and be a part of something greater than themselves, both within and beyond our walls and fields. Our students’ participation in the ABODA Music Festival at Westminster, Winter House Games and Coeducation Day with St Peter’s Girls School are just a handful of events that have taken part across the course of this week. It is through these experiences and interactions we build connection and community and in turn positively influencing our students experience of belonging.
Congratulations to our Prep Band, directed by Mr Brad Turner and Mr Luke White, our Junior School Concert Band, conducted by Mr Simon Varga and Mr Damien Hurn, and to our Junior Strings, conducted by Sharon Campbell, who were all presented with Gold Awards and were awarded Overall Section Winners too!
Have a wonderful weekend.
