Congratulations to Dr Richard Harris SC OAM (FLL ’81) who has been recognised with the highest Australia Day Honours alongside Dr Craig Challen SC OAM for their heroic efforts as part of an international rescue mission to save 12 boys and their soccer coach from a flooded cave in Thailand.

Anaesthetist Dr Harris and retired vet Dr Challen were named joint 2019 Australians of the Year on 25 January 2019. Both were awarded the Star of Courage for their unwavering bravery and courage during the rescue.

Congratulations also goes to the following old scholars who were recognised in the 2019 Australia Day Honours List:

Professor Bruce Kemp (W&A ’65) – Officer of the Order (AO), General Division for his distinguished service to biomedical research.

Dr Randall Sach (HWK ’65) – Member of the Order (AM), General Division for his significant service to medicine as a plastic surgeon.

Mr Ian Baker Wall OAM (WDK ’49) – Member of the Order (AM) in the General Division for significant service to the community through philanthropic initiatives.

Mr Michael Harvie Bleby (DAC ’66) – Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in the General Division for service to the community.

Mr Timothy Yuill Pellew (FLL ’57) – Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in the General Division for service to cricket.
