On Tuesday 15 November, the Years 7 and 8 Chinese Language & Literature students had a Dragonboat Racing excursion at West Lakes followed by a tasty Chinese lunch at 粥粥有约 (Zhou Zhou You Yue.)Our students were accompanied by two other schools, St Peter’s Girls School and Pulteney Grammar.

Students from the three schools were divided into two groups. The Dragonboat SA instructor gave a safety talk and taught the students how to paddle. After putting on the life jackets, Louis Brook and Harry Zhang attached the dragon head to the front of the boats. The groups worked together to transfer the dragonboat to the lakeside and launched the boats.

The key to the success of racing the dragonboat is the same rhythm of paddling, which requires effective teamwork. After several attempts the students were successful in moving the boats forwards. After an hour’s practice, the two teams had an intense and exciting competition to the finish line. The racing atmosphere was great! The lunch at  粥粥有约 (Zhou Zhou You Yue) was delicious, and also provided a social opportunity for all students.
