The recent Dutton Society Evensong event brought together past parents and lifelong friends of SPSC, reflecting the strong ties that continue long after students graduate. The Dutton Society is an avenue for reconnecting former parents of the School community and maintaining long-standing friendships and engagement.
A performance by the Choir of Pilgrim Uniting Church in the School Chapel was one highlight of the evening. The choir performed a selection of music for Choral Evensong, a service of prayer and music that has remained largely unchanged since 1549.
The Dutton society is named in honour of Frederick Hansborough Dutton, who donated land in the 1850s known as “Dutton’s Piece”. Today “Dutton’s Piece” is occupied by the earlier buildings of the Junior School, the plane tree Avenue, tennis courts and the eastern half of the Girdlestone Oval.
It was wonderful to welcome the Dutton Society and celebrate the School’s heritage and the ongoing connection among its members.
