Our Year 4 students recently had the wonderful opportunity to visit St Peter’s Cathedral as part of their Religious Studies learning. The excursion provided students with a valuable opportunity to step outside the classroom and experience a significant place of Christian worship, history and community.
During our visit, students explored the cathedral and discovered how its architecture, artwork and symbols communicate important Christian beliefs and stories. From the stained-glass windows to the intricate features of the altar, students were encouraged to look carefully and consider what these features might tell us about God, Jesus and the Christian faith. Students were encouraged to ask questions throughout the visit and to think about the different ways people express their faith. They demonstrated curiosity and enthusiasm as they explored the cathedral, listened to stories and considered the meaning behind what they observed.
One of the highlights of the excursion was learning about the history of the cathedral and its connection with St Peter’s College. Two of the windows in the Lady Chapel are dedicated to the memory of Bishop Augustus Short and the Reverend James Farrell.
We look forward to building on this experience as students continue to explore the Christian faith and the rich traditions of the Anglican Church in their Religious Studies learning.
