Water Polo is an exciting and fast paced game involving ball handling skills, teamwork and swimming as main aspects required to play the sport. From this week the Junior School boys in years 5 and 6 are invited to try out water polo through the Flippa Ball program.
The aim of the program is to promote interest in Water Polo in the Junior School, whilst encouraging those that may not know anything about the sport or have ever played it. With the help of coaches Daniel Spiby (year 12) and Ned Gauvin (Old Scholar), as well as supervisor, Ms Fleming (Teacher in charge of Water Polo), we aim to provide basic knowledge and skillsets that assist those in playing Water Polo at any level. The program is important for the Junior School as it allows for the students that have not had an experience of Water Polo before, to come along and give it a go prior to entering the Senior School allowing them to be confident and familiar with a larger variety of sports.
I am privileged to be able to offer this program in my continued service to the school having completed my final year as Captain of Water Polo here at St Peters. It is my vision to not only increase the numbers of participants in the sport at school but to have an impact in the wider community at both club and State level.
Water Polo at saints has seen an incredible number of participants and skilled coaches throughout the past years. This has been seen with the rapid increase of participation of state level players originating from the current year 7 and 8 cohort, most of whom were brand new to the sport at the start of the year. The club scene has also had an increase of numbers from SPSC boys ranging from years 7 to 12 along with many old scholars.
We encourage year 5 and 6 students to come along on a Friday afternoon and give it a go. For more information please email Ms Fleming.
