On the eve of the 2026 football season, the St Peter’s College community gathered for the Football Season Launch and Jumper Presentation—an occasion that brought together players, coaches, families and old scholars to set the tone for the year ahead.

Earlier in the afternoon, Senior School footballers led a training session with boys from Years 2 to 6. The session provided younger students with the opportunity to learn from senior players, while reinforcing the strong sense of connection across the program.

Head of Football Jimmy Toumpas spoke to the unique place football holds within the School, emphasising that it is about far more than what happens on a Saturday.

“Footy at SPSC isn’t just about what happens on a Saturday – it’s about community… It’s the mateship… the shared experiences… That’s what makes it powerful.”
He outlined the program’s guiding themes for the season. Fun. Professional. Together. Highlighting the importance of connection across year levels and a shared sense of purpose.

“Nothing meaningful happens in isolation. This is a team game, and more broadly, a community program.”

Head Coach George Thring reinforced the program’s commitment to both performance and character development, describing a clear and consistent approach to how SPSC football is played.

“We want to be successful… but we are also trying to build a program that develops character… where boys learn how to deal with pressure, respond to setbacks and contribute to something bigger than themselves.”

Football Captain Jimmy Hele reflected on what it means to represent the School and the responsibility that comes with it, particularly in his final season.

“To represent this School, at any level, is an honour… There’s a deep sense of pride that comes playing for this School and with that comes responsibility.”

He also spoke to the standards and connection developed during the pre-season.

“We spoke about being team-first in everything we do… striving for exceptional standards, both on and off the field.”

The evening served as a powerful reminder that football at St Peter’s College is grounded in community, character and shared experience. As the season begins tomorrow, Saturday 2 May, the foundation has been set for a year defined not only by performance, but by connection and growth.
