The French Film Festival is an annual highlight for students of French. Running between March and April, The Alliance Française of Adelaide and Palace Cinemas offer a variety of movies and genres for all ages.

The Year 7 cohort watched ‘Sauvages’ set in Borneo, on the edge of a tropical rainforest. It explores themes like indigenous populations, the destruction of the environment through industrialisation and reflections on society today.

The Years 9 to 12 cohorts watched ‘Le Panache.’ The storyline addresses themes such as courage, adaptability, friendship and self-discovery. A passionate drama teacher believes that with a leap of faith, anything is possible. A shy boy with a speech impediment joins the theatre group and ends up taking the lead role with a cast of misfits. The film was adapted from the play Dans la Peau de Cyrano by Nicola Devort.

Back in school, classes completed activities associated with some of the themes and language covered in the movies.

Thank you to the teachers that accompanied the students on the excursions. It was a most enjoyable experience and a great way to immerse ourselves in French language and culture for a morning.
