This year our theme for French in the Junior School is “Mes vacances en France”.

During Term 1, the Prep and Reception classes will be learning how to say certain snack foods/afternoon tea words. The Years 1 to 3 boys will be learning about breakfast and how the French table is set, as well as the associated vocabulary and phrases.

The Year 4 classes are learning about monuments in Paris while revising giving opinions and describing themselves. The Years 5 and 6 boys are learning about Parisian transport, architecture, districts, and housing as well as descriptive and directional language used to describe locations in Paris.

We began the year with some French celebrations, La Galette des Rois, la Chandeleur, Mardi Gras and la Fête du Citron. We found out about the special cake with the hidden “fève” charm for January 6 and a way of getting extra luck by tossing a pancake whilst holding a coin on la Chandeleur.

Some of our students are busy learning a French tongue twister as part of the Saints Languages Tongue Twister Competition. Bonne chance, good luck, boys.

Our French teaching team this year is Prep to Year 3 Mme McLachlan, Years 4 to 6 Miss Procopio, Ms Hanna, and Mr Becker. Miss India Sanders is assisting Miss Procopio in some upper primary French lessons.

The Prep to Year 3 French classes are held in the French room, New Palm House, the Junior Primary.

We are all looking forward to a wonderful year of French.
