The 2025 Summer Intercol was a thrilling contest between the boys from Hackney and Kent Town. Friday night’s Water Polo Intercol was the best school game in recent memory. After being down 0-4 at quarter time, and 2-6 at half time, the Blues mounted an enthralling comeback to emerge victors 10-9. There was no doubt from all those present, that this was a memory they would never forget. After a first half controlled by the Reds, Captain Nicky (Year 12) stood up with six glittering goals to give SPSC a chance and was ably supported by some phenomenal efforts from goalie, Oscar (Year 12). Going into the last minute with the scores level at 9-all, Donovan (Year 12) shot at goal from little under halfway, sinking it into the bottom right corner to send the Blue Army into ecstasy.

Counting down the last few seconds before the final whistle, the crowd broke into jubilant celebration. What was most pleasing was that no boy felt the need to aim any comments at the PAC crowd. All the SPSC boys made their way respectfully to the Sport Centre Café, and once there, waited to celebrate the water polo team. As the Water Polo team arrived at the café, the band began to play ‘Go Blues’ (to the tune of Hey Jude by the Beatles), and the players were lifted and rightfully acknowledged. It was a surreal feeling, invoking an enormous amount of emotion from everyone present. I am confident that every boy that was present will recount that night as one of their fondest memories from their time at SPSC.

This ties into my message from the start of the year where I am emphasised the importance of community. The numerous boys that decided to take time out of their lives to support others in their endeavours were richly rewarded by experiencing a night they will recall decades from now. As St Peter’s College, we share our victories and lift each other up when we are down.

This weekend has only reinforced how grateful I am to attend this School and I’m sure many boys feel the same. Keep pushing each other to be the best versions of yourselves and never hesitate to put out a helping hand.

Thank you all for a brilliant first term, here’s to a wonderful rest of the year. Go Blues.
