On Friday of Week 6, we had the privilege of hosting the 13th National Student Leadership Summit right here in our very own Memorial Hall. The summit is a student-led event which brings together like-minded student leaders to connect and share ideas on leadership. Our framework revolved around the key concepts of Self, Other and Community, where we ran a number of fun and inclusive activities, listened to TED talks and had conversations around leadership.
We had a few breaks for lunch and recess, and it was awesome to see so many young leaders networking with others to improve their connections with other schools. We believe the event was a great success; it seemed that everyone had fun, met some new people and hopefully learnt a bit about themselves and leadership. Personally, we met a lot of great people from a wide variety schools across the country, and we’re really excited to continue to collaborate with these leaders in the future.
On a more personal note, organising and delivering the summit was a great learning experience. We were both terrified at the thought of having to speak in front of so many people for so long, and were very stressed about putting on a worthwhile summit. Luckily, we had the support of Renee Kirkman and Louka Parry who helped us plan and deliver the summit. We would like to extend a special thanks to Renee who flew from Sydney to help us present; it was amazing hearing from her and having her help us out when we needed it. We’d also like to thank Astrid Innes, our Events and Publications Coordinator for all of the hard work she put in behind the scenes to get this event up and running. It was a wonderful event and was so great getting to meet so many new people!
On another note, we have a lot of fundraisers and charity events coming up in the next few weeks. For one, we are selling Hot Cross Buns for Easter, with all proceeds going towards Nungalinya College which provides Foundation Studies courses to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Please consider buying your Hot Cross Buns through us, as it is supporting a great cause, the link to buy these hot cross buns is here.
These Hot Cross Buns will be delivered to the boys on the morning of Wednesday the 27 March.
Also, our entire prefect body will be shaving their heads in support of the Leukaemia Foundation to provide support to people living with blood cancer. We humbly ask that you donate to our team page, any donation makes a difference.
