Too often, we spend our time wishing we were somewhere else, instead of appreciating where we are. You’ve probably heard it before – it’s a beautiful summer’s day, yet someone says they can’t wait for winter to sit by the fire. Or you’re grinding through school and work, counting down to the holidays, only to reach the end of the break and find yourself itching for routine again.
Why do we wait for the “next thing” to allow ourselves to be happy? Every day has something worth noticing. Maybe it’s raining, but how fresh does the world smell afterwards? Finding small silver linings enriches your life and reminds you how much beauty there really is. At the end of the day, you have to feel some type of way. So why not feel joy for the little things, confidence in your own abilities, and hope that things will always get better.
You have more control over your life than you realise. You deserve good things, and you have the power to shape your own experience.
Part of making your life better, is challenging yourself every day. You should not be breezing through every class or sports training. If you are, then you aren’t being challenged enough. Put the onus on yourself to get something out of your work. Take pleasure in failing, knowing that you are one step closer to where you want to be.
Approach life this way and you’ll build immense confidence. And remember, confidence isn’t something you lose. It’s always there, sometimes you just have to rediscover it.
