For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Henry Burton and I am the 2026 School Vice Captain. My journey at SPSC began five years ago as a Year Nine boarder, following in my Dad’s footsteps. At first, I was admittedly quite hesitant to moving. However, the experience of living with 90 boys from all over the world has shaped me as a person and taught me the importance of giving back to the community that has given me so much.
It has been a busy start to the year as Archie and I settle into our roles. As one of only two schools nationally that invites its School Captains to return for an additional year, this opportunity offers a rare insight into how a school truly operates. It is a privilege to see what happens beyond the classroom and to better understand the responsibility that comes with leadership.
One of the biggest lessons I have learned already is just how many people it takes to run a school well. As students, we do not always see the countless non-teaching staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure each day runs smoothly.
This includes organising events such as the House Chapel barbecue services that have been running three times a week during morning mentor, as well as supporting celebrations like Chinese New Year. With this being the Year of the Horse, symbolising energy and forward momentum, it feels fitting as we move full steam ahead into this new chapter.
I am looking forward to whatever this year has to offer. As author and podcast host Jay Shetty says, “The greatest adventure is what lies ahead. Today and tomorrow are yet to be written.”
