World’s Greatest Shave
This Thursday 2 April (Week 10), the St Peter’s College community will come together for the World’s Greatest Shave, with all 18 Prefects taking part in a powerful act of support, awareness and leadership.
Held at lunchtime outside Old School House, the event will see Prefects shave their heads in solidarity with those affected by blood cancer and their families. Alongside this, there will be a live band and BBQ, creating an opportunity for the entire school community to come together in a positive and purposeful way.
While the event itself is a significant moment, much of the impact has already been felt through the recent visit of old scholar Fraser Jaffray (HWK 2019). Fraser returned to a Senior School Muster to share his personal experience with cancer, delivering a message that resonated deeply with students and staff alike. Hearing from someone so closely connected to the School made his story all the more powerful, reminding us that these challenges are not distant, but real and present within our own community.
Fraser’s courage, honesty and perspective have played a key role in shaping this year’s initiative. His message encouraged reflection, gratitude and a stronger understanding of why events like the World’s Greatest Shave matter. Following his visit, Henry and I had the unique opportunity to interview Fraser, and I would strongly encourage everyone to take the time to watch the full video. His ongoing support, despite current challenges, is a testament to his character and commitment to raising awareness.
For me personally, Fraser’s message was a powerful reminder that this can quite literally happen to anyone. Sitting in that room, listening to someone who only recently walked the same corridors as us, it became clear how quickly life can change. It reinforced the importance of not taking our health, our opportunities, or the people around us for granted.
This event is about more than fundraising. It is about standing together, starting important conversations, and showing support for those who need it most. As a community, we are proud to be part of something that has such a meaningful and lasting impact.
