As we begin Term 2, it is worth reflecting not just on the events that have already taken place, but on what they reveal about the strength of our community at St Peter’s College.
Last Friday, we came together to acknowledge ANZAC Day. The respect shown by all those in attendance reflected a deep sense of maturity and understanding of this commemorative occasion. What stood out most to me was not just audience numbers, but the shared understanding of why the occasion matters. ANZAC Day reminds us of service, sacrifice and perspective, values that continue to shape the culture of our School. Ever since I have joined SPSC one of the biggest things I have been taken aback by is how my peers around me conduct themselves in terms of time and place, particularly at significant events like Friday morning. The genuine sense of respect and gratitude demonstrates the connection and understanding within our community.
This sense of connection continued through Community Day, which provided an opportunity for students to come together in a very different, but equally important way. Across the School, Houses competed with energy and enthusiasm, but what stood out most was the support shown between peers. Whether it was on the sidelines, during competition, or in the final Tug of War, there was a clear sense that people were not just competing for themselves, but for each other. I had the opportunity to compete alongside my Short House peers in Senior Soccer, and it was a great reminder that some of the most valuable experiences at school come from simply being part of something bigger than yourself.
Looking ahead, Term 2 presents a number of opportunities to continue building this culture. With Boarders Week, the Rex J Lipman lecture featuring Dame Jacinda Ardern, the Swimming Carnival, and the Year 10 Journey, there are many chances for everyone to be involved, connect with others, and contribute positively to life at SPSC. Thank you to all involved that made the Anzac Memorial Service and Community Day happen.
