Cross Community Connections

Last week, our Year 6 students had the pleasure of hosting their peers from Seymour College, Walford Anglican School for Girls and Wilderness School for an afternoon of connection and camaraderie. This visit provided a wonderful opportunity for our students to share experiences and build friendships beyond our School community.

The day began with a delightful lunch in the Function Space, followed by free play on the ovals and playgrounds. The students then participated in a fun and engaging game of ‘Find someone who …’ bingo in the Year 6 classrooms. This activity was designed to encourage more in-depth conversations, moving beyond simple yes-or-no questions. For example, instead of just asking if someone owns a pair of Crocs, students were prompted to ask about the colour and any Jibbitz decorations. Similarly, rather than just inquiring if someone plays an instrument, they practiced asking follow-up questions like, ‘Which one do you learn?’ This approach aims to help our students develop transferable conversation skills, enabling them to ask further questions and build more meaningful connections.

The day concluded with a meaningful service led by Father Theo in the Chapel, focusing on leadership and the importance of being role models in their respective schools. Mr Ed Ruediger, our Service-Learning Project Officer, also shared a reflection on the significance of being the eldest students in their respective Junior Schools and what it means to be a positive leader, with or without a badge or title.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Heads of Junior School, Bronwyn Kay (Seymour College), Cathie Eggar (Walford Anglican School for Girls), and Liz McCarthy (Wilderness School) – and their Year 6 teaching teams for supporting this valuable event. At St Peter’s College, we deeply value our collaboration with girls’ schools in Adelaide, recognising that our students will work with and for women in their futures. We look forward to further building upon these programs across all year levels.
