20 June 2025
In last Friday’s Junior School Assembly, Reverand Julia spoke about Refugee Week and the connection refugees have with Jesus’ experience of seeking safety in Egypt, fleeing from King Herod. Her message, it’s connection to Scripture and the prayer for refugees shared last week resonated with me.
My father and his parents needed help from the Red Cross to get to Australia in the wake of the Hungarian Revolution in 1956. Almost 70 years ago, they escaped to Austria, leaving everything they owned and people they loved, behind in Budapest. I often wonder if they would have made it to Adelaide and built a life here if it wasn’t for the generosity of those working with the Red Cross at the time, supporting them in seeking political refuge.
The Student Voice and Action Forum have decided that the funds raised on Crazy Tie Day, to be held on Thursday 26 June, will be donated to the United Nations Refugee Agency.
The United Nations Refugee Agency provides life-saving support to people who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict or danger. To show our support, students are encouraged to wear a fun, colourful, or quirky tie, with either their formal or PE uniform, and bring a gold coin donation.
Payments can also be made online via the link: https://www.trybooking.com/au/donate/crazytie
Thank you for supporting our students as they take meaningful action to help others.
Semester 1 Reporting
Over the last couple of weeks, Mr Storer, Mr Sanders and I have been proof reading students’ end of Semester 1 Reports. It has been excellent to read about the progress the boys are all making in their learning and their achievements to date too! Something else I have truly enjoyed reading are examples of when students have shown themselves to be exceptional learners.
I hope it is known that our School vision is to be an exceptional community of learning, so when I see evidence of students being curious, creative and persistent, asking for and responding to feedback with and open mind, I know that we are doing great work towards bringing our vision to life. I am so proud of our students in being active participants, rather than recipients, in learning.
