3 Way Conferences

It has been a joy to see parents, students and teachers meeting together during 3 Way Conferences this week; seeing students talk about their learning alongside their teachers reflects the ownership boys have in their schooling journey at St Peter’s College. Thank you to parents for taking the time to participate in these valuable meetings, demonstrating to your sons that we are truly partners in educating your boys.

R U Okay?

As previously mentioned this term, boys continue to be encouraged to make a point of saying good morning, hello and good afternoon if they are ever within earshot of another staff member or student on campus. We know that by greeting each other, we feel seen and known and part of the SPSC community. We also make a point of checking in on how others are feeling and know that most of the time we will get a response of ‘I’m doing well, thank you.’

In the week of R U Okay? Day, it is important to remember that as important as it is to connect with others through greetings, that it is important to listen for when that someone you have said hello to, isn’t’ okay. We want to encourage each other to be able to say ‘I’m having a bad time’, or ‘I’m feeling unsettled’. Sometimes we need someone to listen to our worries, to help us make a plan to make things better. We want our young people to know who to speak to when they need, and that parents, friends, teachers and colleagues are here to listen and help.

Through modelling open conversations, developing emotional vocabulary, and giving children time to speak and be heard, we can build good habits of help seeking for the now and the future.
