From the Deputy Headmaster/Head of Junior School

It has indeed been a lively and eventful fortnight for students, staff and parents alike.

At last week’s Assembly, we marked the Lunar New Year with multiple performances from students, Mrs Baker and guest dancer, Lawson Le. Gong Xi Fa Cai to our families celebrating the Spring Festival.

Following our Anglican calendar, many of our students enjoyed pancakes for Shrove Tuesday, the day before the Lenten season begins. In Chapel services across the Junior School, boys attended Ash Wednesday services, marking the beginning of the 40-day period of fasting, prayer, and reflection leading up to Easter.

We also acknowledge the commencement of Ramadan on Wednesday 18 February, and I personally wish our Muslim families a Ramadan Kareem.

I thoroughly enjoyed speaking with parents at the Headmaster’s Welcome Drinks last Friday night; reconnecting with some and meeting others for the first time too. It was excellent to ss so many Junior School parents in attendance. There is power in the partnerships parents have, not only with the School, but the relationships between each other. The African proverb it takes a village to raise a child, is evident in the community wrapped around our boys and worth investing in. Whether it is an emergency carpool, cheering each other’s sons on from the sporting sidelines, or having someone to share the ups and downs of parenting with, it is worth leaning into as many opportunities to connect with one another, knowing that we all benefit.
