The last fortnight has made me think that at SPSC, we get done in a fortnight, what other schools get done in a term!
The Blessing of the Playground has been a standout for all students, from our Prep students through to the Senior School students who were sighted testing the swings and slides, it is a joy to see the boys’ perpetual movement across the day.
Congratulations to our Heads of House and the students in Years 3 to 6 who participated in last week’s House Singing Competition. This year’s theme invited students to performs songs that have been released in their lifetime. Alliston Jones House performed Imagine Dragon’s Thunder, Brookes House sang One Republic’s I ain’t worried and Clayton Dyer House delivered George Ezra’s Shotgun. The winning House, Stokes Ware House, brought the competition home for the fourth year running with The Greatest Showman’s iconic This is me. Well done to all our Heads of House who conducted 100 strong choirs so wonderfully.
On Tuesday, the Year 3 to 6 students enjoyed marching behind the Senior School Intercol Band, accompanied by an uplifting drum line. It was great to see students participating in a range of novelty and athletics events over the course of the Year 3 to 6 Sports Day, culminating in a series of House relays. I look forward to our Sports Captain announcing the results of the day in our Term 4 Week 1 Assembly. Thanks to all our JSFoS committee members and volunteers who provided the sausage sizzle for lunch.
The Annual Years 1 and 2 concert, held on Wednesday afternoon and evening, was an absolute delight to watch. The aptly titled ‘I’ve got the music in me’ themed show was outstanding. Our students absolutely have the music in them which was evident in their dance moves, their body percussion and collective voices! Congratulations to all staff involved in the production, and in particular to Ms Katie Carey for her carefully curated program and conducting over 120 boys to perform confidently, cohesively and with joy! The repertoire has inspired me to rethink my karaoke go to list with Bobby Darin’s Beyond the Sea, and Mama Cass’s Make your own kind of music now going to the top of my list.
Year 3 students have just spent their first two nights at Finniss, St Peter’s College’s outdoor education campus. Parents can be incredibly proud of their sons’ participation in this initial camping venture, which serves as an important stepping stone in developing skills that will eventually culminate in the 21-day journey to the Flinders Ranges in Year 10. It was great to join the boys for dinner on Thursday night to hear all about their adventures! Thank you to the staff who attended the camp, spending time away from their own families and homes, to enable this invaluable experience for our students.
North Terrace Gate and Car Park Closure
The School is undertaking important structural repairs to the North Terrace entrance in the second week of the upcoming holidays. The North Terrace entry gate and carpark will be closed from Tuesday 6 October until Friday 11 October. If your son is attending OSHC, ELC or Tennis during the holidays, please use the Trinity Street entrance to park on The Avenues or the Hackney Road entrance and car park. Thank you for your patience and understanding while the works are completed.
Term 4 Uniform
Please remember boys are to wear summer uniform in Term 4. Do insist your son polishes his own shoes ready for the start of term. When visiting the hairdresser, make sure no extreme difference in length, fades or lightning bolts are shaved into your son’s hair.
Have a safe and rejuvenating holiday ahead of what promises to be another exceptional term of learning.
Please remember, I am always open to feedback and suggestions, and encourage you to reach out via email should you wish to meet: jtaylor@stpeters.sa.edu.au
