Chamber Strings at the RAH
It was an absolute privilege to see our Chamber Strings ensemble perform at the Royal Adelaide Hospital on Wednesday. The 11 students, led by Strings Coordinator, Sharon Campbell, impressed patients, staff and visitors alike with a repertoire of both contemporary and classical pieces. As I fought back the tears welling in my eyes as the boys played a stunning arrangement of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, I reflected on how hearing music can have both an emotional and physiological impact. I know that I am not the only one to feel goosebumps or a stirring in my chest when listening to music; there were many a passerby who said, as they passed through the RAH foyer, that they too were finding it hard to hold back tears.
Tears aside, the boys’ performance was appreciated by the hospital community as it brought a joyful and welcome interruption to an otherwise ordinary day in a hospital. I congratulate the boys on this lovely act of service.
Thank you to Ms Campbell for your leadership of the Strings Program and to Dr Emma Manifold for coordinating with the RAH to make this visit possible. We look forward to further opportunities to bring Junior School Music to the community, beyond our walls and fields.
Summer House Games
Well done to all Year 3 to 6 students who competed in the Summer House Games. It was wonderful to see students enjoy competing in Volleyball, Tennis, Cricket and T-ball. The boys thoroughly enjoyed the competition and their first Junior School Friends of Saints sausage sizzle of the year. Thank you to the JSFoS volunteers who barbequed lunch for students and staff.
