02 August 2024
When I was teaching my own class, Term 3 was always my favourite. It felt like there was a real momentum in student learning. Reflecting with colleagues at St Peter’s College, they too experience Term 3 as one where students demonstrate incredible academic growth.
There really shouldn’t be that much difference between Terms 2 and 3. However, once you have 100 days of the school year behind you, you have had 100 days of routine you are now familiar with, 100 days spent with peers you have formed bonds with, and 100 days of establishing meaningful relationships with teachers and support staff.
As a student, you feel like you know how things work and are more confident, more engaged, and more willing to take risks in your learning. Students have built a solid foundation and are ready to tackle more challenging concepts.
Teachers also have a deeper understanding of their students’ strengths and areas for improvement, meaning students feel even more supported and understood. This mutual understanding creates a positive learning environment where students can thrive.
The combination of established routines, strong relationships, and increased confidence makes Term 3 a standout term for both students and teachers.
I look forward to hearing about your son’s start to Term 3 when I see you around the grounds.
Enjoy the weekend ahead and please remember my door is always open.
