As we come to the end of another term, there is much to be thankful for as a school community.

Last week, we were treated to the Cabaret Concert, which gave our Year 12 music students the opportunity to perform together for one final time. The quality of performance was outstanding, matched by the depth of talent across the program. Our Year 12 musicians have contributed a great deal over their time at the School, not only through their performances, but through the example they have set for younger students. They leave the program stronger for their contribution.

On Friday, we held our annual Athletics Carnival. It was a terrific community day, with strong participation from the boys and a growing number of parents coming along to support them. The atmosphere across the day was excellent. Thank you particularly to the Senior School Friends of Saints for supplying the BBQ and coordinating volunteers, and to the many parents who contributed their time.

This week, the Senior School has turned its attention to Blue Week. Our Captains, Archie and Henry, have coordinated a range of activities, including a special Muster held on Monday with old scholar Nathan Adcock (HWD 1995). Nathan spoke candidly about his experience of school and his progression into professional cricket. His message to the boys was a simple and important one: seek help when you need it and be the kind of mate who can be trusted when someone else is struggling. It is a message worth reinforcing at home. Strong friendships are not simply about enjoying the good times together. They also require boys to notice one another, to listen and sometimes to have the courage to speak up.

Following Muster, we had the privilege of celebrating the Confirmation of a large group of boys. As an Anglican School, part of our responsibility is to give students opportunities to explore faith, ask questions and consider for themselves what Christian faith might mean in their lives. Confirmation is an important step for those who choose to make that commitment. It was a special occasion for the boys and their families, and a reminder of the place that faith, worship and service continue to hold within the life of the School.

This Friday evening, our Years 11 and 12 boys will come together for the Blue and White, A Sky Full of Stars. It is one of those occasions that marks the rhythm of the Senior School year, particularly for our Year 12 students as they move closer to the end of their time at St Peter’s College.

The term break will also see the annual Sony Camp take place at the School. In partnership with Wilderness School, our students will help provide respite for families of children with disability. Sony Camp is an important part of our Service Learning Program because it asks something genuine of those involved. It requires time, responsibility, patience and care for others. We are grateful to the students and staff who commit themselves so generously to the Camp.

Taken together, these events say something important about what we hope for our boys. We want them to develop their talents and pursue excellence, but also to become young men who contribute, who look out for others and who understand that their education carries responsibilities as well as opportunities.

Thank you for the way families continue to support the life of the Senior School. Your presence at events, your encouragement at home and your willingness to embrace the breadth of opportunities available to your sons make a significant difference.

I hope the term break provides some genuine time for rest and for families to reconnect. We look forward to returning in Term 4, celebrating our graduating Year 12 students and sharing the important final weeks of the School year together.
