The strength of the St Peter’s College community has been on display over the past fortnight. With the completion of the winter sports season culminating in our Intercollegiate round against Prince Alfred College, it was wonderful to see the spirit in which the competition was held across so many disciplines.
An absolute highlight and a sign of our community’s strength was not just seen in the victories. It was the pure emotion the boys showed when they did not complete the season as they had hoped. Equally impressive was the support they received from the rest of the community in their losses. Witnessing a losing side wrapped in the care and support of their peers truly signifies one of the special traits of being part of the SPSC community.
While we supported our teams in defeat, we also celebrated some hard-fought wins. Notably, the large number of boys who attended the Debating competition were treated to a very entertaining and close contest, featuring some of the most talented debaters in the country. The atmosphere in Memorial Hall was electric, matched by the skill of both sides. The result was in our favor in a very tight contest, and if the tension of this event was not enough, the last-second victory in Basketball exemplified the spirit and beauty of our Intercollegiate competition and the strong sense of community and friendship we share.
Away from the Intercollegiate competition, our musicians have continued to excel, winning a total of eight gold medals at the ABODA music festival. We are immensely proud of their ongoing efforts and achievements. For those who wish to see our musicians in action, there will be a combined Orchestra Concert in Memorial Hall this Saturday at 3.00pm.
In the Arts, we have the culmination of our Artist in Residence program, with Jimmy Dodd being celebrated as part of the SALA exhibition. The exhibition runs over the weekend in the Drama Centre and features works from our students, Jimmy Dodd, and our talented Art Teachers. Watching Jimmy engage with our students using technology as a medium for art has been richly rewarding and hopefully has inspired some of our students to explore how they can continue to develop their creative skills through the arts.
We are also in the midst of our leadership selection process for 2025 and the start of our farewells to our Year 12 students with our House Dinners. Once again, we see the strength of our community as the boys who have applied for leadership share their stories of connection to SPSC and explain why they feel called to be part of the leadership in 2025. At the same time, the House communities are coming together to thank our graduating Class of 2024 for their time at SPSC. Hearing the boys reflect on their time in the House and the significance of their Mentors is another reminder of how strong our community is and how well our pastoral structures support the development of the boys.
This morning’s Father’s Day Breakfast was another important celebration of community. We thank all families who were able to attend this special event. We acknowledge that our partnership with families is what helps make this an exceptional learning community. The breakfast was a wonderful celebration of our St Peter’s College community and a fitting way to conclude a memorable two weeks at SPSC.
