As the Summer Sport season draws to a close, I would like to thank the staff who contributed to the co-curricular program over the course of this term. It has been an unprecedented time in relation to the changes in teams we have been required to make due to players, opposition teams’ players, managers and coaches attendance being so unpredictable on account of COVID-19. It has been an amazing effort from all involved to ensure as many of our teams and our students were able to take part in the fixtures across Term 1.

Participating in team sports, whether it be interschool or inter House, has value that extends beyond the physical benefits of exercise. Students who play within a team develop competence, confidence, connections, character, and caring. At the heart of this is self-esteem – an increased sense of self as a result of better social interactions, stronger relationships, and higher academic performance. (Maslen, 2015) I do not underestimate the positive impact that school sport has on student wellbeing and thank parents for their support of our Junior School Sports programs.

It was wonderful to proceed with the Summer House Games last week and see students in Years 3-6 enjoy competing in Volleyball, Tennis, Cricket and T-ball. The boys thoroughly enjoyed the competition and their first Junior School Friends of Saints sausage sizzle of the year. Thank you to the JSFoS volunteers who barbequed lunch for students and staff. If you are interested in being involved as a volunteer or committee member, please email jsfos@stpeters.sa.edu.au or fill in the JSFoS Nomination Form.

Wishing you a restful weekend.
